Streetsville's Fall Learn To Skate & Stick and Puck for 4 to 12-year old’s will start on Monday, January 13th, 2025!

The Vic Johnston Community Center and the Streetsville Hockey League are pleased to offer our Learn to Skate & Stick and Puck programs.

Our Learn to Skate program is designed to teach players the fundamentals of skating. This program is offered to kids from 4 - 12 years old.

Our Stick and Puck program is designed to give players the confidence of skating with a hockey stick in their hands at a young age. Stick and Puck will also include stick handling, balance, and hand-eye coordination.

Cost for each program is $245.00 per skater. Sign up for both, Learn to Skate & Stick and Puck and receive a $40.00 discount.(Total $450.00)

Learn to Skate:

Level 1:
1st-time skaters
Level 2: 
Skaters who are comfortable on the ice by themselves 
Level 3: 
Advanced Skaters 
 
Required Equipment:
Skates, CSA Approved Helmet with full cage, Gloves (Mittens or snow gloves) 

Recommended Equipment:
Hockey Gloves, Snow Pants, Winter Jacket, Elbow Pads, Knee Pads

STICK AND PUCK:

Focus of the program will be on basic hockey skills and drills.

Required Equipment:
Skate's, CSA Approved Helmet with full cage, Hockey Gloves & Hockey Stick

Recommended Equipment:
Mouth guard, shoulder pads, elbow pads, hockey pants, athletic supporter (jock/jill), shin pads, hockey socks and jersey

Cara LaBute

Our program is run by Cara LaBute who is a Professional Skating Instructor and has been teaching skating for over 25 years. She started skating at the age of 6 with the Credit Valley Skating Club which is now known as the Mississauga Skating Club. She was a competitive figure skater with the Toronto Cricket Skating and Curling Club, completing her Gold levels in figures and free skate.

Cara is a Certified level 1 instructor with the CFSA, which is now known as Skate Canada, as well as an NCCP level 1 instructor.

Cara has also been teaching pre-school, junior, intermediate and adult skating skills with the City of Mississauga for over 15 years.  She has helped develop hockey players in all age groups ranging from house league to AAA.

Cara has been teaching for 14 seasons with Mississauga Ringette LTS/ FUN program. Cara has been working with the Streetsville Hockey League, focusing her time with our house league and rep teams. She develops power skating and fundamental skating plans that forces on all skating skills. Cara has her First aid, as well as her High Five Certification. High Five is a Canadian quality standard for children’s recreation sport, wellbeing and healthy development for ages 6-12. Cara has also completed the Jumpstart Inclusive Play Leadership Certificate, Competency Based Educational Training with GTHL Canada, as well as other city courses such as Respectful Workplace Training, Bullying etc.

Cara and her team are a major asset to the Vic Johnston Community Center.
